Public Health begins COVID-19 booster campaign
Cow Creek Public Health is now administering COVID-19 booster shots to those who were vaccinated through the health agency earlier this year.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the following groups of individuals are eligible to receive booster doses:
- Anyone who received a primary series (first and second doses) of Moderna or Pfizer BioNTech vaccine six or more months ago and is:
- Age 65 or older
- Age 18 or older and lives in a long-term care setting
- Age 18 or older and at severe risk of COVID-19 due to underlying medical conditions
- Age 18 or older who has an occupation or setting that puts them at high risk of contracting COVID-19
- Anyone who received a Johnson & Johnson vaccine two or more months ago and is age 18 and older
Locally, Cow Creek Public Health will contact all individuals who received their primary COVID-19 vaccination series through Cow Creek Public Health (if it has been more than six months ago for Moderna/Pfizer, or two months ago for Johnson & Johnson) and ask if they want to schedule an appointment to receive a booster. However, prior to receiving a booster vaccine, all individuals will be required to sign a consent form self-attesting to their eligibility to receive a booster dose.
All booster shots administered by Public Health do require an appointment; call (541) 677-5535 to schedule.
Please note: If you did not receive your primary dose series COVID-19 vaccine from Cow Creek Public Health but would like a booster dose, please call (541) 677-5535 to be added to the waitlist. Cow Creek Public Health is currently pausing administering all primary dose series vaccines (first and second Moderna or Pfizer and first dose Johnson & Johnson) in order to provide booster vaccines for the large population of individuals vaccinated with their primary series.
Cow Creek Public Health recommends discussing COVID-19 vaccines and medical conditions with your primary health care provider prior to receiving a vaccination. Due to the complexity of booster doses and the varying categories of patients eligible to receive them, Cow Creek Public Health is unable to give specific advice regarding which vaccine booster may be best for each person.
All vaccinations are taking place at the Cow Creek Public Health Mobile Vaccination Site located in the south parking lot of Seven Feathers Casino Resort in Canyonville, Oregon by appointment only (call (541) 677-5535 to schedule). The Mobile Site will be open Monday through Friday from 9:30AM to 2:30PM and will operate as a drive-thru location. All those receiving a booster dose are asked to bring their CDC-issued vaccine card for updating, as well as identification.
The previous Public Health Mobile Vaccine Site, located across the street from the Cow Creek Tribal Government Offices in Roseburg on Stephens Street, closed Monday, October 25 to transition the site to Seven Feathers.
In addition to booster doses and primary doses for adults, pediatric vaccines for children 5-11 are also available through Cow Creek Public Health. CCPH will hold a drive-thru clinic for children ages 5-11 to receive their initial COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer) on Friday, November 12, and Saturday November 13.
